Ankle deformity
Jacob was born with clubfoot and remained active in sports while growing up. Later, increasing pain in his foot, ankle and knee made work, hunting and fishing more difficult. After delaying an evaluation, he was referred to the International Center for Limb Lengthening.
Following examination and X-rays, Dr. Noman A. Siddiqui recommended reconstruction for the ankle deformity. Jacob’s letter describes a long course of treatment involving several operations and an external fixation frame, followed by its removal. He does not describe recovery as a quick or simple process.
Nearly a year after the first operation, Jacob wrote about returning to fishing, camping and hunting, and expressed appreciation for the care he received. His account shows how a person’s goals beyond the clinic can shape the meaning of recovery. It also preserves the reality that complex deformity correction may involve multiple procedures and extended rehabilitation.
This account reflects the patient’s experience at the time of the original institutional story. It does not predict another person’s result or recovery timeline.
